William Lu, MD

William Y. Lu, M.D.

Dr. Lu is board certified in Neurosurgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Dr. Lu's interests include applying new navigational techniques to improve the safety of spinal surgery, utilizing new methods to reconstruct yet preserve mobility in the spine, and investigating the use of surgery in the field of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's. His capabilities in skull base techniques, traditional and endoscopic approaches for pituitary tumors, image-guidance technologies, and the use of cosmetic reconstruction allow effective brain tumor management. He received his training for the Gamma Knife at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

Dr. Lu has been past chairman of the Neurosurgery department and prior Medical Director of the Neuroscience Institute at Florida Hospital. He is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He has been in practice in the central Florida area since 1994. He and his wife Beth have 3 children, Lauren, Ben and Grace.
